The Romanian M73 Steel Helmet was created in 1973 and based on designs of the dutch M38/39. The Socialist Republic of Romania, at the time a Soviet satellite state, wanted to distance themselves from USSR control and started restructuring their military forces. The M73 was used mostly in the 1970s-80s until the wide spread use of the modern kevlar helmet.
